Lei Ti was born and raised in Kaohsiung, Taiwan with a traditional Taiwanese family. In his Firecracker series, Lei Ti captures the spirit of Chinese and Taiwanese culture. Lei Ti redefines these cultures for the digital generation. As Chinese culture mixes with elements from Western influences, the Fireworks series is about preserving Chinese traditional arts in a new way.
In the 2011 firecracker POP series, we can see the Chinese culture crashing together with Western culture in ways that haven't been seen before. From the Chinese culture as Lei Ti's base perspective, he combines global living, news, current events and global pop culture. He captures pop art skill and thinking. His style is very simple, sure, reflective and often satirical on behalf and for a new mixed culture generation.
In the 2011 Firecracker series Lei Ti uses firecrackers, fire and other materials. He burns the fireworks on the paper or canvas to make the paintings. Using fireworks, there are often accidents, and can't have total control over how the paintings burn. These accidents on the paper give the finished paintings a unique, beautiful look. Lei Ti's methods are not the same as other, senior fireworks painters. Lei Ti uses the same skills as used in printmaking. Lei Ti uses multiple layers to isolate parts of the paper for burning and make the painting. This method makes it easier to make sure the fireworks burn the right areas of the paper. Since beginning this technique it has gotten easier to control the fireworks. It is Lei Ti's unique style.
